What if I told you..

Fiber optic splice sheets come in all shapes, sizes and colors. But there’s an unanswered question what software to use and how to create them. One must use a computer, but what software to choose? There are plenty of graphical editors, CADs, network management systems. But there’s still no international standard or something like a rule of thumb.

On one hand, when it comes to drawing fiber splice sheets, it means you definitely know what to draw. On the other hand, many does not know how. It reminds me of a definition of mind mapping applications:

Mind mapping enhances brainstorming by visually organizing ideas around a central theme, promoting nonlinear thinking and stimulating both analytical and creative brain functions. This approach fosters connections between ideas, boosting idea generation and improving their quality.

So you start a mind map app, grab some blocks and throw them on your page, make some connections intuitively, add arrows, text, you name it. Nobody has taught you that. Great and very useful stuff.

What if I told you… that you can have your page, grab some fiber optic cables, place them wherever you like, grab some fibers in a cable and stick them into another cable. Throw in some optic splitters, stick some fibers in. As easy as in any mind map application. And with the same amount of effort you can then stick the fibers out of the cable and stick them in to some other fibers, or maybe cables. Then you can select those fibers with the mouse and reroute them the way you like, so the splicing sheet will be nice and readable.

Sounds easy enough? That’s what I’m gonna show you.
